Trip

Day 1 :
Day 1:

10 a.m.: Arrival in Piegaro and visit to the Glass Museum.
The Glass Museum is the most important testimony to an ancient tradition of glassmaking, which has characterised Piegaro and its economy since the 13th century. The building that currently houses the exhibition is the last site, within the village walls, of the Glassworks, which was decommissioned in 1968, moving production to a new plant in the valley of the village, which still exists today.
Inaugurated on 18 April 2009, the museum preserves the old appearance of the glassworks and houses many types of artefacts that are only a part of the factory's production over the last two centuries. These objects were made with various types of workmanship. The oldest and most widespread, practised in the Piegaro facilities until the 1950s, was blowing, which could be free or in moulds.
Among the oldest and most valuable pieces are some that belonged to the table service of the Misciattelli family (19th century). These are glasses, bottles, jugs and other containers, mostly made of transparent glass with engraved and painted decoration. Numerous wine containers, in particular flasks and demijohns, are produced either by blowing or by semi-automatic machines.
The Museum offers the possibility of choosing a practical workshop from among those proposed (groups of at least 4 people)
1 p.m.: Hotel accommodation and lunch.
Afternoon free visit to the historic centre of Piegaro.
5pm: Departure for Passignano, a small town of Etruscan-Roman origin located on the northern shore of the lake and one of the most renowned tourist centres in the lake area. The town is located on the banks of Lake Trasimeno, but its historic centre climbs up a small promontory where, amidst evocative alleyways and breathtaking views, stands the Rocca Medievale, a well-preserved ancient fortification from which one can enjoy an incredible panorama of the entire lake. Also noteworthy are the Church of San Cristoforo, an ancient 9th-century parish church erected on the remains of a pagan temple, and the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Oliveto, dating back to the 16th century, inside which are preserved many valuable works by Ascanio da Cortona, Virgilio Nucci, Salvo Salvini and Giovan Battista Caporali. Also not to be missed are the 15th-century Church of San Bernardino, with its ancient, typically sandstone façade, and the Renaissance Oratory of San Rocco. From the village jetty, it is possible to take the ferry to the two accessible islands of Lake Trasimeno, Polvese and Maggiore, for a pleasant excursion between nature and history.
8 p.m.: Dinner at a characteristic little restaurant in the heart of the ancient piazzetta under the castle of Passignano, offering delicacies of the lake and land.
23.00: Return to the hotel
